GREAT AMERICAN BOYCOTT 2006 - Video and Photo Gallery

Photography, Video and Entry by: Gary Isse on May 1, 2006

The Great American Boycott of 2006 was an absolutely amazing event. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to stick around for the followup at McAurthur Park but I saw plenty at City Hall. It is unbelievable how many people were out in the streets. I had never seen so many people in one place. I had also never seen such a true demonstration of what it means to be an American. Hundreds of thousands of people today joined together to stand up for what they believe in. As you can see from the videos and photos on this page, there were tons of people.

This first clip is of the route from Olympic and Broadway, where the event started, to City Hall. (10:14)
This next clip is more of the demonstration at Los Angeles City Hall. As you can see, it was packed absolutely everywhere. (5:14)
Code Pink (1:17)
Francisca Porchas, a lead organizer with the Labor/Community Strategy Center and the Bus Riders Union's Clean Air, Clean Lungs, Clean Buses Campaign (1:02)
This is a fun video to watch of various people who attended telling me exactly what they were there to do. (15:10)
I was shocked at how many white shirts were getting on the train at Pasadena, and even more shocked at how many at Pershing Square. (3:03)
PHOTO GALLERY:
Here are about 27 photographs I took throughout the event.
Although the video clips on this web site have been severely compressed for Internet use, they are all available in broadcast quality DV format. If you are interested in inquring about a clip, feel free to contact me here.

Some of you may be wondering why I decided to add these video to CarFreeLA.com and not any of my other web sites, like GaryIsse.com. The primary reason is because this event was actually able to accomplish what it is that CarFreeLA would like to accomplish. If only for a day, it has still managed to do so. Let's hope can do it again.
