Launched
on Earth Day 2006, Car Free LA is a web site dedicated to
helping people get around Los Angeles without a car. Whether you're a tourist or a local resident, this site provides some useful tools to reduce your dependence on cars.
Car Free LA is a vision of a county full of
pedestrian-focused areas where people can enjoy their surroundings
without the distraction, pollution and disruption of cars;
where people can realistically get by and accomplish all of
their tasks without a car; where parking lots and meters are
a distant memory.
The goal is not to get every single car off
of the road tomorrow. Nor is it to get rid of all roads. It
is simply to develop areas throughout the county where people
can be without cars.
By accomplishing this, many other
benefits will follow. A few examples are that the environment
will improve substantially hopefully slowing down or even reversing
the effects of global warming, democracy will flourish as
people spend more time interacting, and negative industries
will be forced to find more sustainable methods of operating.
Los Angeles is the most populous county in
the country and it has the power to influence the world. Movements
that start hear are heard across all corners of the globe.
Be part of a truly historic and global movement. and help to
